Interested in learning about growing vegetables? Want to learn how a small farm works? Or just plain want to help & get your hands dirty? We’re always looking for a few volunteers who’d like to work side by side with us in exchange for hands on training. When available, volunteers will receive other benefits like pick your own vegetables. We’ve found that folks who like to be involved with the farm make our best CSA members!

No experience is required! All that you need to be able to do is follow directions. You do not need to be a current CSA member to volunteer. If you have special skills you’d like to contribute, please let us know. These skills can include special talents that don’t involve working directly in the field!

When & Where

We usually need volunteers during the week on Tuesdays & Wednesday. There will also often be Saturdays when we need help. All volunteer work is conducted at our West Tawakoni main farm.

A Few Cautions

This is a working farm. There are woods, brambles, thorns, snakes, stinging & biting insects intermixed with machinery and tools in various storage locations. You must wear closed toe shoes!

Please do not bring children or pets with you when volunteering. We will have opportunities for you to bring your children out to see the farm periodically.

Smoking and other tobacco use is not allowed anywhere on the farm. We appreciate your assistance in preventing wildfires and the transmission of tobacco mosaic virus to our plants.

What to Bring & Wear

There are no paved areas at all on the farm yet. There is a porta-potty and hand-washing station available. Otherwise, the only other building on the farm right now is the pump house. So, we recommend you bring the following:

  • wide brimmed hat
  • gloves
  • closed toe shoes that can get muddy
  • clothes that can get dirty
  • a chair if you want to sit (there’s lots of shade, but chairs are limited)
  • water & snacks for yourself
  • sunscreen & bug spray

How to Get Started

Generally, we need volunteers on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & some Saturdays. Send us an email by filling out our form here with your name and contact information. We’ll add you to our volunteers email group where we announce volunteer day schedules & special events like orientations, potluck dinners, etc. Unless otherwise noted for special events that require an advance head count, you’ll only need to let us know you are coming the day before so we are expecting you and are available. We have two locations, so we need to know in advance you’re coming so we can plan accordingly.
